Beantown Christmas

Every year the staff at Classic Travel takes a trip for our annual Christmas party. Past parties have been held in such cities as New York, Minneapolis, Chicago, Las Vegas and London. This year the Yuletide festivities were celebrated in the exciting city of Boston. In addition to all of the history and famous landmarks, Bean town is definitely a party town!

We flew Northwest Airlines nonstop from Detroit early Saturday morning and then were met by private motor coach at Logan airport. We then embarked on a half-day sightseeing tour of the city that included Harvard and took us along the Freedom Trail. During our lunch stop some of us wandered into John Harvard’s BrewPub and quaffed a few pints of Christmas ale, the party was in full swing.

After the tour, we checked into our hotel, the Omni Parker House, which is the oldest grand hotel in the country and the birthplace of Boston cream pie. That afternoon everyone took off on Christmas shopping excursions and further brewpub research. Dinner was at the Durgin Park restaurant at Faneuil Hall Marketplace, a Boston classic. Everyone enjoyed massive amounts of food and drink, as well as the customary surliness of the wait staff.

After dinner it was time for the annual Classic Travel holiday pub-crawl to begin. Much to our surprise and delight we discovered that Boston has more pubs than Lansing has Quality Dairies. We cheerfully moved en masse from one watering hole to another immersed in holiday spirit. At our final stop the last thing I remember is slurring the lyrics to Dylan’s ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ while Scott Arnold did the bump and grind with a Christmas bow as a g-string, great party!

Sunday morning we nursed our holiday hangovers at the Monet exhibit, “hey are all of these paintings blurry or is it just me”? For lunch it was chowder and two pound lobsters with lots of butter at the Union Oyster House, “what hangover”? That night we flew back home a little worse for wear and desperately searching for a second wind in anticipation of a rough Monday morning back at work.

At Classic Travel we are experts at cramming a week’s worth of activities into a short weekend for groups or individuals. Give us a call and let us arrange your next party!
