Who else can say on a Thursday afternoon, “Hey I think I will go to California on Saturday to go visit my friends!” Only a Classic Travel employee! That was exactly how it happened. I was mailed The Price is Right tickets and then it was a done deal, I was going to go to Tinsel Town (Los Angeles)! It has always been my dream to go there and Joy and Tom allowed this dream to come true. Thank you so much!
I flew out to meet my friends who were on a road trip and conveniently in the California area. They said they would pick me up at the airport at 2:30 which ended up being 5:30. Oh well. The first day we went to Pier 39 and ate at Bubba Gumps. Bubba Gumps was so delicious. They had excellent seafood. This restaurant was based off the movie Forrest Gump; the atmosphere was quick and fun. Definitely a great place to eat. After the delicious food and a walk around Pier 39 we decided to head to our sleeping quarters. Not to much surprise, we were sleeping literally right next to the Pacific Ocean.
The next morning just being able to smell the ocean first thing in the morning was amazing. After leaving our sleeping quarters we decided to go to San Francisco again and drive around and see what the place was all about. Liz and I really wanted to find the Full House houses. We did! They are exactly how they look like in the TV show. My friend Emily was tricked into driving on the crookedest street. Lombard Street is so crooked and the funny thing is that people actually live on this street. The streets are outrageous in how hilly they are. Your car can be almost vertical. It was so much fun. After driving around we decided to go to the famous Ghirardelli’s Square. The ice cream there was to die for. After eating scrumptious ice cream we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge and drove to a friends’ house. That is where we stayed for the night.
We woke up extra early for a beautiful hike to see amazing views. I will not lie, it was a pretty tough hike, but it was well worth it in the end. After the hike we packed the car and then took off for my dream place, Los Angeles. It felt like a million years to get the Los Angeles. We did not arrive until 1 am. When we did arrive, we thought we should go see where the Price is Right would be taped just so when we do wake up early we will know where it was and would not get lost. To our dismay there was already a HUGE line. So we decided to camp out on the concrete. Spectacular!
We got in line for the Price is Right at 1 am with only our tickets, a bottle of water, and two blankets. We had no sleep under our belt but my friends and I really want to see the Price is Right and Bob Barker! At about 6 am they allowed regular ticket holders to go inside. That was not my friends and we were merely stand-by ticket holders. After standing in line for 3 more hours they said they would take 75 more people into the studio. We thought we were all good because we thought we were close. But little did we know that we were stopped and there were about 10 people ahead of us. So close and yet so far. This is why I am in Los Angeles, to see the Price is Right. After speaking with several people in line the 10 that were ahead of us decided to leave so my roommate Liz and I were number 1 and 2 in line. The security guard had told us earlier that maybe we could get into a different showing but our showing was completely filled. Liz and I decided what’s a few more hours going to hurt us? The security came back after about 15 minutes and said he could take 6 more people into the early showing. What do you know Liz and I were number 1 and 2. It was one of the greatest moments in my life.
The Price is Right was amazing. After sleeping on the concrete and standing in line for so many hours no matter who was there everyone had so much energy. Bob Barker was hilarious and he looks just like he does on TV.
After a great day at the Price is Right, the end of my day ended up at Muscle Beach (Venice Beach). The warm weather, the ocean and the sun shining down on me, this was a perfect ending to my dream trip. Hollywood is where dreams come true, and that is exactly what has happened to me. Thanks again Joy and Tom.
