Riviera Maya offers the perfect setting for your destination wedding, featuring stunning white sand beaches, turquoise Caribbean waters, tropical jungles, and ancient Mayan ruins.
The first thing you should know about planning a destination wedding is to use a travel agent. I have the expertise to match you with your ideal destination, resort, and experience. Once a destination and resort are selected, I will negotiate on your behalf for the best price, act as a liaison between you and the on-site wedding coordinator, and assist you and your guests with all travel arrangements for the wedding including flights, accommodations, transfers, tours, etc. You will have the peace of mind knowing that every detail is being taken care of.
After signing your destination wedding contract and paying your deposit, you will be put in touch with the on-site wedding coordinator who will take care of your every need related to the wedding and more. They will also ensure that you are aware of all legal requirements including documents needed for getting married in Mexico. For most weddings, you must arrive in Mexico three days prior to your wedding to meet with the on-site wedding coordinator and officiant to make any final preparations for your big day.
I recently returned from training in Riviera Maya where I inspected several resorts and each of their destination wedding facilities. At each resort I visited, the happy couple are VIP guests from the minute they arrive to the day they say “I Do.”
Rehearsal Dinner & Parties
Most resorts offer the couple a private rehearsal dinner for the wedding party and guests at extra cost (unless it’s included in your destination wedding package). The location options for the rehearsal dinner vary by resort, but could be on the beach with a bonfire, in a wine cellar, and more.
Another option that many resorts offer at extra cost is a spa or sports day for the bride, groom, and their attendants. For the bridal party, they can choose to be pampered at the spa with services from facials to full messages. They can also arrange for hair and makeup to be done in private rooms on the wedding day. The groom and his groomsmen can also choose spa services, but maybe activities at a sports bar might be more appealing. There is even a resort that has a bowling alley and arcade.
Most resorts offer numerous types of wedding packages and will customize anything a couple requests. There are so many venues to consider including beaches, gardens, fountains, and some resorts even have beachfront chapels. They will perform any type of ceremony and most will also do same-sex weddings.
Most weddings are performed in the early evening (at sunset is amazing) and a resort will do anywhere from two to three ceremonies a day. Each ceremony lasts about 20 minutes. An important note to remember is that most couples want an outdoor wedding, but in case of bad weather, they always have a backup indoors. The indoors options are also amazing.
The cost for destination weddings will depend on what the couple wants. Packages prices vary from complimentary (depending on the resort) to $8,000+.
Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun has a beach gazebo located over the water with a 360 degree view of the beautiful turquoise waters. Generations Riviera Maya and Azul Beach Hotel by Karisma have marvelous rooftop wedding locations with views you can’t even imagine. These are a few examples of weddings that can only be done in Mexico.
Once the wedding ceremony is complete, you can have a reception for groups from 10 to 250 people. The receptions can vary from just drinks and hors d’oeuvres at restaurants or grills to full course dinners at private restaurants or ballrooms which include food, drinks, dancing, photos, and even a photo booth for the guests to enjoy.
Once the day has come to an end, the couple can retire to the magnificent honeymoon suite with a special treat waiting for their arrival.
