Secrets Capri has always been my favorite resort until I stayed at Secrets Akumal, which is now my favorite resort by far. The only part I did not like was the long transfer down from the airport in Cancun to Akumal, which was just over an hour.
The room at the resort was amazing and ideal for couples. It had a huge walk-in shower with a rain shower head hanging from the ceiling, a detachable shower wand, and a place to sit. The vanity had two sinks and a glass door to both the shower and the toilet. The room with the toilet had a phone… LOL! There was a huge Jacuzzi tub between the bathroom area and bedroom with a sheer curtain going around. There was also a sitting bench in bathroom area.
The closet had many hidden treasures. It had the normal safe, robe, and slippers. There was also a “Secret Door”. The Secret Door allows you to receive room service 24-hours per day without needing to get dressed! Your room service is delivered through the Secret Door and once secured, they will ring a buzzer letting you know your meal is there and ready. You retrieve your meal in the privacy of seclusion. Of course, you can have them wheel the meal into your room if you like.
The king size bed was huge with a nightstand on each side. It was very soft and plush. I loved it!
There was a counter area the length of the room on the closet side with a cappuccino machine, flat screen TV above, and fully-stocked refrigerator below. The sitting area couch was full of pillows and the ottoman was huge and round where more than one person can sit on it. We had a whole meal on it one night when it was raining and still had room.
The room was fabulous with an ocean view and sliding floor-to-ceiling patio doors. The patio had a chair and a couch full of pillows.
There was a concierge in every building. Saol was very impressive. I received a welcome phone call from him letting us know that if we need anything to just let him know. Our flight arrived really late (it was a charter flight from Lansing). The next morning when we were heading down to the beach, Saol said, “I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you.” Several times a day, we would see him somewhere on the property and he always called me by name and asked if we were enjoying our stay, etc… very pleasant. I felt like family.
Heading down to one of the many pool areas, an employee asked if he could locate two chairs for us. We requested the main pool with swim-up bar and not only did he take us to chairs, but he lined them with two towels each for us to lay on. What service! The chairs were nice, solid lounge chairs with very comfortable cushions… not what you normally see by a pool. The pool area also had entertainment staff and drink waiters.
The beach at the Secrets Akumal was fabulous. The sand was easy to walk on without sinking. There were security guards at both ends. If someone tried to sit in one of the chairs that did not belong at the resort, they were escorted out. The beach bar had swings for sitting. How fun is that? There is a protected reef in which you can snorkel as much as you want, but is not directly in front of the resort so you can enjoy the Caribbean Sea as well. The beach also had drink waiters.
There was a spa and fitness center on property I did not use. I also did not use the business center because of free Wi-Fi throughout the property. Shopping at the resort included a jewelry store, sunglasses store, clothing store, and sundries store. There was also a coffee shop included with the all-inclusive package.
There was a sports bar with pool tables and a martini bar with coach swings and bonfire lit every night.
The food was fabulous! I loved getting fabulous rib-eye steaks with room service. I ate at the Japanese, French, and Italian restaurants and they were exquisite. I ate at the breakfast buffet most mornings and the seaside grill for most lunches. I never made it to Oceana (seafood) or the Mexican restaurant.
If you are hungry sitting by the pool, they will give you a “barefoot” menu, which is grilled right in the pool area and delivered to your lounge chair.
The entertainment schedule was placed in our room with turn down service every night. There was always something to do, including rainy day activities. The nightly entertainment was incredible. There were guys twirling from the ceiling on long flowing fabric, just a little bit of everything, something different each night. The night club was always hopping – lots of dancing – lots of drinking – lots of laughing.
I don’t think I did anything for myself this whole trip. How is that for amazing?
I’m sure I did not cover everything, but I would definitely go back to this resort. It is a must visit resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico!
