A Travel Agent’s Thanksgiving in Miami

Written by Rhonda Brooks.

Normally my husband and I spend our Thanksgiving back in our hometown of Muskegon, Michigan. This year, several members of our family happened to be in different areas of the country and our daughter was in Iceland, so we decided to book a Delta Vacations to Miami Beach for a long weekend. We’re glad we did as we really enjoyed Miami Beach and the area. Despite the often talked about airport chaos the day before Thanksgiving, we were pleasantly surprised how relatively quiet the Detroit Metro airport was. From our check-in to security, the process was extremely smooth.

Our hotel, The Confidante is conveniently located a couple miles north of South Beach and was only a 20-minute drive from the Miami airport. Parking was a bit pricey at $45/day, so we decided to use Lyft to get to our hotel and determine if we wanted to rent a car when we got there. We were pleasantly surprised to find Miami Beach has a free trolley that covers the whole beach now, so a car really wasn’t necessary since we were there for only 4 days. We also signed up for one of the Hop-On Hop-Off buses one of the days so we could explore other areas such as the City of Miami across the bridge, Little Havana, Coconut Grove, and learn some of the history of the area including the art and music that makes the city a fun place to live and visit.

When we weren’t exploring the area, we loved hanging out at our hotel’s pool and beach. The hotel pool area has great landscaping with plenty of palm trees and umbrellas offering shade if you don’t want to be in the sun all day. They have an adult pool and a family pool, which was nice. It was a comfortable place for a family hangout, but it also had a hip vibe as well in the pool bar area. The entire staff (pool, poolside bar, valets, front desk, cleaning staff) was very friendly and accommodating. The beach and boardwalk are directly behind the property, which was very convenient. The boardwalk was a great way to take a leisurely walk, jog, or bike. We also rented bikes at one of the several CitiBike stations around the island.

From the number of good restaurants, great beaches, beautiful hotels, great shopping, parks, and boardwalk, Miami Beach attracts visitors from all over the world. After visiting, we see why it is so popular. Overall, this is a great place to get away from the cold Michigan weather. We definitely recommend this property and plan to come back. Please call me if you have any questions on this particular property or if I can help you book your next vacation to one of the other destinations we have experienced.
