A Weekend Getaway to the Breathless Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa as Reviewed by a Travel Agent

A long weekend in sunny Mexico was exactly what my husband and I needed. With Apple Vacations nonstop flights from Lansing to Cancun, we were able to maximize our time on our mini vacation. Just 3 hours and 10 minutes of flight time from the close and easily accessible Capital City Airport and you are there!  I have to say, I have been away from Mexico too long.  The beautiful beaches, the warm friendly people, and lovely green and flowering landscaping, I have missed you!

The adults only Breathless resort was our home away from home. The decor is very modern, lots of glass and metal mixed with woods and stone in a way I found both exciting and comfortable.  Breathless is built in a three-horseshoe design, each with a center pool facing the ocean.  The Exhale club is the quieter, VIP section of the Resort with a private Restaurant and pool area just for their guests.  The center main area houses the restaurants, great meeting places and has two pools with a swim up bar.  The third horseshoe houses the Excite club with its pool DJ, thumping base, colorful cocktails, dancing in and around the pool, the party is going on at Excite!

There were lots of activities from morning yoga, beach volleyball, to foam parties in the Excite pool. There was a live band on the beach one afternoon that was really good!  We watched a fashion show one night that we really enjoyed. It was easy to see what was going on as each room is equipped with a tablet that has the daily schedule for the week. You can book Spa appointments, order room service, and request anything you might need right from this tablet.

With Eleven bars and restaurants to choose from, you will never go hungry or be without a drink in your hand (even if it is just water). The specialty dinner restaurants include Japanese, Mexican, French, and Italian.  There are also restaurants for small bites and Tapas, lunchtime grills by the pools, and a very extensive buffet restaurant Spoon which is open 24 hours.  I found the food and beverage staff to be very friendly and helpful.  With our three nights we ate at the beach side Mediterranean (Exhale club only), the Japanese for sushi, and the French restaurant for my birthday with a complimentary bottle of champagne and a surprise birthday dessert.  We truly enjoyed them all.

We stayed in the Exhale club in an Ocean View Jr. Suite. It was more our style, quiet with outstanding service. Our room was very large with a two-person glass shower and whirlpool tub on the balcony.  It was decorated in the same modern style with glass balcony railings and changeable colorful mood lighting in the headboard.  I don’t usually like very modern décor but I found our room atheistically pleasing, comfortable and fun!

We agreed that we would stay at Breathless again and stick with the Exhale club. It was nice to visit the other areas and return to our pool when we had enough of the party.
